Engaging and Disengaging System Components

  • All Equashield components are engaged by aligning the red marks on each component and sliding components together.
  • Do not twist or rotate system components during or after engagement.
  • All Equashield components are disengaged by pulling apart the Syringe Unit from its mating component.

Preparing a Vial Assembly

  • Using a VA-20/2 Vial Adaptor or a VA-13/2 Vial Adaptor.
  • Remove protective cap from vial and disinfect per facility protocol.
  • Place Vial Adaptor on the neck of the vial and press down.
  • Ensuring snapping of all four locking elements.
  • Ensure the Vial Adaptor is centered on the vial before pushing straight down.
  • Remove coloured cap to access Equashield membrane.

Preparing a Simple Dose

  • Using a VA-20/2 Vial Adaptor and a Syringe Unit (SU).
  • Engage syringe unit to vial assembly.
  • Invert vial and withdraw required amount of drug.
  • Inject air bubbles into vial and continue to withdraw until the required amount is obtained.
  • To reduce volume, turn vial in its upright position and inject the drug drug into the vial.
  • Disengage syringe unit from Vial Assembly.
  • Dispose of or store Vial Assembly per facility protocol.

Preparing an IV Bag Using and Equashield Spike Adaptor

  • Prepare a Syringe Unit, VA-20/2 Vial Adaptor and SA-1/SA-1T Bag Spike.
  • Using the Spike Adaptor, spike an IV bag up to the ridge on the spike.
  • Disinfect Spike Adaptor membrane per facility protocol.
  • Engage Syringe Unit to Spike Adaptor and inject drug.
  • Flush Spike Adaptor by aspirating at least 0.5ml and reinject.
  • Disengage Syringe Unit from Spike Adaptor.

Preparing an IV Bag Using an Equashield Spike Adaptor and IV Tubing Set

  • Assemble the VA 20/2 Vial Adaptor, Syringe Unit, SA-1/SA-1T Spike Adaptor, FC-1/FC-1S Female Connector.
  • Using the Spike Adaptor, spike an IV bag up to the ridge on the spike.
  • Flip open cap on Spike Adaptor, insert tubing spike.
  • Prime tubing per facility protocol.
  • Attach the Female Connector to tubing end.
  • Disinfect Spike Adaptor membrane per facility protocol.
  • Engage Syringe unit to Spike Adaptor and inject drug.
  • Flush Spike Adaptor by aspirating at least 0.5ml and re-inject.
  • Disengage Syringe Unit from Spike Adaptor.
  • Dispose of Syringe Unit per facility protocol.

Closed

  • Standard syringe proven to contaminate – through open areas such as the barrel and the plunger.
  • The Equashield syringe is proven to protect .
  • It includes a closed plunger and a closed barrel to form a completely closed system.
