Our chest drain codes may appear complicated, but they are very logical and simple to follow once you know how to read them.
Our coding explained
We specify chest drains by the two letters and 4 digits “DR2012” on every chest drain product |
Next we specify the TIP type: |
a “T” indicates a trochar drain |
a “-“indicates a NON-trochar drain |
The next two digits indicate the drain size in ‘Fr’ gauge, but does not tell you the length – you need to check specifications for this |
Lastly, we indicate if the drain is a full needle-free kit or a plain drain: |
If there is a “K” at the end of the code, that drain is a needle-free kit |
If there is no “K” at the end, the drain is a plain drain with the standard blue connector |
| |
Examples of typical codes are:
| |
DR2012T12K |
(12 Fr Trochar needle-free kit) |
| |
DR2012-18 |
(18 Fr Plain Non-trochar drain) |
| |
You will now understand that the important information you need is just the last 4 characters of the code!! |
